Chismisan... Understanding Thoughts And Notions

Had a lengthy conversation with Annie Medina, Editor in Chief of Pinoy Magazine, who by the way featured us in their April issue. I feel like sharing this conversation because lately I haven't been posting much. Here's the excerpt:

jasper lloyd tan: nagpapatulong kasi ako magsubmit ng demos ng songs namin
jasper lloyd tan: totohanin kaya niya yung offer? sana naman totohanin niya hehe
pinoy_editor: siguro naman may word of honor sha
jasper lloyd tan: seryoso?
jasper lloyd tan: based on experience
jasper lloyd tan: may gig na pala siya this 22 and 23 yata. yun sabi niya sa akin
pinoy_editor: i think so. di kami close eh..hehe
jasper lloyd tan: kasi punta ako diyan sa 24, sabi niya pwede ko ba raw agahan so that makapunta ako sa gig niya
jasper lloyd tan: ah ganun ba? mas malapit ka sa rivermaya?
jasper lloyd tan: ako feeling close kay mark, hahaha
jasper lloyd tan: si mark lang nakaka ym ko, si japs sometimes lang
pinoy_editor: not as a whole, kay japs OO..hehe. i dunno, m not as that excited anymore...
jasper lloyd tan: excited sa alin?
jasper lloyd tan: sa album niya?
pinoy_editor: wala kasing bumebenta na opm ngayon eh..well, let us see then...
pinoy_editor: everything...
pinoy_editor: nakakalungkot ang nagyayari ngayon sa eksena eh
jasper lloyd tan: bossa kasi yung nagclick pero namatay na rin because dami gumagaya di naman magagaling
pinoy_editor: hina talaga ng OPM halos yung mga labels umaaray...
jasper lloyd tan: hintay nila kami hahaha
pinoy_editor: you never know, di ba...timing lang naman yan
jasper lloyd tan: wala lang, i'm just waiting for someone to support OPM Christian artists tulad namin
jasper lloyd tan: dunno if na notice mo, maraming foreign christian artists na dumadating dito. sunod2x halos every month
jasper lloyd tan: dito sa pinas, yung mga OPM CCM artists di pa narerecognized
pinoy_editor: malay mo warner ang mag-open ng door for that di ba?
jasper lloyd tan: yung pinaka recognized, si kitchie and barbie lang but then again subtle sila in terms of referring to themselves as Christian artists
jasper lloyd tan: sana nga may malaking label na mag open ng ganyan. kasi yung praise music (distributor ng album namin) nahihirapan sa promotions eh. di sila ganun ka galing compared with the major labels, can't blame din na rin because of piracy.
jasper lloyd tan: kaya yung mga christian artists nila, di rin na properly promoted, indie yung dating, kami2x lang kumikilos sa pag market and promote the album. super indie yung dating
jasper lloyd tan: hirap nga for us kasi indie na, Christian pa, so two times yung hirap to penetrate the mainstream market
pinoy_editor: eh di mag change kayo ng genre
jasper lloyd tan: ano kasi annie eh, di ko kasi bebenta yung principles ko when it comes to our music...
jasper lloyd tan: kasi i'm not into this na para sisikat kami
jasper lloyd tan: it's more like a ministry
pinoy_editor: its a mater of choices yan eh..if u wanna stick with that genre then panindigan di ba...
jasper lloyd tan: dito na rin kasi kami nakapagstart, sa ganitong genre. so it means a lot to us.
jasper lloyd tan: yeah
jasper lloyd tan: this is what paved the door for us, so tuloy2x lang. we don't want to lose our identity and sell out
jasper lloyd tan: kaya kahit mahirap yung road before us, tuloy2x lang kasi kahit papaano, we are still blessed to have an album nationwide kahit di ganun kalakas or sikat. from a band that comes from the province, malaking achievement na rin yun. ilan lang kami na taga CDO na nabigyan ng opportunity na magka album
pinoy_editor: so what do you wanna achieve then if its not all about fame...
jasper lloyd tan: we just want to share the good news... that there is hope
jasper lloyd tan: if we believe in Christ, life is not as bad as we think it is
jasper lloyd tan: we don't wanna sound preachy about it, but that's just it
jasper lloyd tan: if we could touch people who lost their way, and found a new meaning in their lives, masaya na kami. kahit na di magkaplatinum or whatever awards we get
jasper lloyd tan: yung story namin is a testament na rin na kahit na we came from a far flung city in mindanao, we still get to share our music nationwide through the album that can be bought anywhere in the country. yun nga lang, marketing and distribution is weak, but we are fairly satisfied
jasper lloyd tan: baka na weiweirdohan ka na sa kin diyan ha? hehehe
jasper lloyd tan: dati kasi gusto ko tumayo ng emo band
jasper lloyd tan: tapos na realize ko, bat ako mag eemo?
pinoy_editor: hindi now, find it amazing kasi bihira ako makausap ng people like you na may strong faith, bilib ako
jasper lloyd tan: yung original plans ko kasi was an emo band
pinoy_editor: talaga, emo?  tapos..
jasper lloyd tan: tapos na realize ko na why should i help fuel a persons sadness by wriiting songs that are also sad in nature?
jasper lloyd tan: so instead of writing those kinds of songs, i decided to look deeper into myself and ask myself what is the one thing that makes me realize that life is worth living
jasper lloyd tan: and dun, na realize ko, God's Love is the key to it all. the happiness that we seek that we might not have known or has taken granted is actually just there. every waking moment. we are surrounded by beauty. we are surrounded by love
jasper lloyd tan: kaya yun yung nagiging theme ng album namin, and i called it "In Awe of His Amazing Love."
pinoy_editor: songwriter ka nga
jasper lloyd tan: ngee. actually lyricist lang
jasper lloyd tan: kasi the instruments are provided and composed by the band
pinoy_editor: sayo nangggaling yung puso ng banda
jasper lloyd tan: something like that
jasper lloyd tan: hehe
jasper lloyd tan: kasi ako na rin nag start eh.. but it's a must talaga that for those who are in this band, they should know and understand na rin why this band came to be and what is the purpose of it's existence
jasper lloyd tan: sometimes gusto ko na mag give up kasi costly talaga yung ginagawa namin eh 
pinoy_editor: mas importante kung ano talaga yung gusto nyo mahirap kasi pag napipilitan lang eh...
jasper lloyd tan: but i owe it all to God, kasi wala naman talaga sa plans namin to take this seriously
jasper lloyd tan: fund raising lang to sa church namin that got bigger
jasper lloyd tan: if it was meant to be just that then sana di na to umabot sa Praise and nabigyan kami ng ganitong opportunity
jasper lloyd tan: somehow God has a bigger plan. I believe it was his will to put our songs in a situation where people get to access it wherever they may be in the country.
jasper lloyd tan: we could be just like any band out there that got their demos turned down and faded away. pero hindi eh, tinaggap siya at dinistribute... kaya pinursue na namin
jasper lloyd tan: kasi it's no longer about what we want, but what God wants
jasper lloyd tan: nakakatawa and nakakagulat din na minsan gusto ko ng mag give up, tapos out of the blue merong mag memessage, or magcocomment na galing sa tao na di ko naman kakilala. and they would say na it touched them, na iinsipire sila, or things like that.
jasper lloyd tan: and mapapaisip ako, o ano? suko na ba ako? yan na ba yung katapusan?
jasper lloyd tan: and di lang ito once nangyari. daming beses and pa ulit ulit tong nangyayari everytime i think of giving up
jasper lloyd tan: kaya tuloy2x lang
jasper lloyd tan: every year we grow older naman and a bit more wiser. meron din tayong natutunan na new things
jasper lloyd tan: ey have to go na
jasper lloyd tan: got to get back to work
