Heart of Worship

Thoughts And Notions as guest performers during Hillsong's visit to Cagayan de Oro

It's been quite a while since I last joined a genuine Praise and Worship activity. It's been quite a while since I last joined our Church's Praise and Worship activity. And I realized, my band is not an excuse. My ministry is not an excuse. Last night Thrina and me went back to our roots. We forgot about Thoughts And Notions and helped out in whatever way that we could. And it always feels great to be humbled down and just remember the heart of worship. It is not always about the music, nor is it just about our ministries. Somehow, there has to be a genuine need to rediscover the heart of worship. To find our savior Jesus Christ in the thick of things. Some of us have been so caught up by our respective ministries' demands and problems that we tend to forget about Jesus. We are so engrossed of working for our ministries, making things work, that we tend to forget about giving room for faith. I believe there is a challenge for us to spend some time to rediscover that element in our ministries. It is sad to know that sometimes our ministries become work for us. Instead of doing them with passion and love for God, we do them out of obligation. We essentially lose the meaning of why our ministries were built.

I've seen leaders of different Christian ministries work hard to achieve their goals, but do them without Christian compassion. I've seen people berate and not patient enough to handle the pressures in organizing and leading groups. I've seen leaders grow their egos, thinking that a ministry cannot survive without them, holding on to them and prevent growth. I've seen people think that they are larger than their respective ministries, sucking the life out of their ministries. All these happens for the simple reason that they believed in themselves to be the be all and end all of their ministries, leaving little faith in allowing God's grace to work it's power.  But then, one must come to understand that it is always not upon one's self for a ministry to work. Our work and actions is just a part of a whole that also involves interaction and cooperation with the rest of the ministry team, and of course, God's grace and blessing. Last night, we put Thoughts And Notions to a rest. And just be one with the rest of the team. Forget about the songs, forget about the ministries, but plain offering our life to God. That's why last night was a big revelation to me. Because when the moment came that we need to rest Thoughts And Notions, we were gladly ready to do just that. It has always not been about Thoughts And Notions. It has always been about the Heart of Worship, Jesus Christ. Without Jesus Christ, Thoughts And Notions can and will never survive, my ministry will never survive.

One of the songs that the music ministry played was Heart of Worship by Matt Redman. I have always been struck by Matt Redman's song the Heart of Worship. I've posted the lyrics below for those of us who became too engrossed with our ministries that we tend to forget the heart of it all. The song holds a special place in my heart because with the ministry that I have, there is always a danger of allowing your songs/music to take over the heart of why we started this whole thing in the first place. While the song talks about specific messages to  Christian songwriters, it is also applicable to those of us who are involved in different ministries. Whatever they may be.

Heart of Worship

by Matt Redman

When the music fades
And all is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that's of worth
That will bless your heart

I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the ways things appear
You're looking into my heart

I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You
All about You, Jesus
I'm sorry Lord for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You
It's all about You Jesus

King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I'm weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath

I'll bring You more than just a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart

I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You
All about You, Jesus
I'm sorry Lord for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You
It's all about You Jesus

Its all about you
Jesus

Jun2x Reyes (Spiritual Formation Head) poses with the Music Ministry Team

Finally, after 3 long months of planning for this event, we have finally made it. It was one great night of worship and giving praises to God. We forgot about Thoughts And Notions. We went back to our roots, from where we came from, with a new Worship Music Ministry Team, and a renewed passion to Love God above all. More Photos can be seen at www.amonching.multiply.com
